Internship Framatome 2026 March/April – September – Burgundy (France)
Internship – Mechanical justification of primary heavy pressure components
Ref. DTI_BUL_26002
Context and presentation of Framatome department hosting the internship :
The Engineering & Design Authority (DTI) business unit of Framatome develop, design and license the nuclear pressure equipment, guarantying the highest level of safety and performance of Pressurized Water Reactors (PWR). Benefiting from a privileged location in the heart of the manufacturing workshops, the Mechanical Engineering teams of the ‘Burgundy Calculation Center’ are dedicated to design justifications of the primary loop heavy pressure components (steam generators, reactor pressure vessels, pressurizers) manufactured on site, and perform the mechanical analysis to demonstrate the structural integrity of the primary circuit regarding safety authorities.
Missions
The purpose of the Internship is to study the impact of some manufacturing processes on the In- Service mechanical behavior of primary loop heavy pressure components.
During your internship you will have the opportunity to:
- Work in a mechanical engineers team dedicated to mechanical justification of EPR2 components, discover the manufacturing process of the component issued by the Saint- Marcel workshop : reactor pressure, steam generators, experiment the Calculation Engineer job ;
- Perform mechanical analysis through Finite Element Methods ;
- Propose a numerical model for the pressure retaining body of heavy components of the primary loop of PWR ;
- Take into account manufacturing process data to adapt the final shape of the modeled geometry ;
- Simulate In Service loadings such as Pressure and thermal evolution of the the fluid in contact with the pressure boundary ;
- Analyze the stresses according to specific standards dedicated to mechanical design of pressure components of PWR nuclear islands (RCC-M code) ;
- Evaluate the stress intensities and the margins for the prevention of damages such as excessive deformation, fatigue or fast
Location and duration
Location: Saint-Marcel Framatome Site (71), Burgundy, France Duration: 6 months (dates to be discussed)

Engineering and Design Authority – DTI Business Unit is in charge of development, design and licensing of nuclear steam supply systems (NSSS) and associated services, including worldwide Technical Centers. It is organized in several Divisions:
Design Authority – DTIA: takes the overall responsibility for the design process, approval of design changes, and for ensuring that the requisite knowledge is established, preserved and extended with experience.
Technical Center – DTIC: responsible for the business based on the Framatome laboratories and test facilities providing support with its skills and capabilities.
Research & Development – DTID: in charge of animating and coordinating R&D activities for the whole Framatome (all BUs, worldwide). DTID is also responsible for the management of “Upstream Research”.
Mechanical Engineering – DTIM: covers all engineering activities required to perform the design, sizing, manufacturing technical follow-up, calculation analysis, regulatory demonstration and engineering support for service and maintenance of the mechanical primary equipment and components according N4S definition and, in addition, for heat exchangers, tanks and mechanical calculations for all other equipment.
Safety & Process – DTIP: plays a major role in the engineering of the Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) of the power plants in operation (IB) but also of new constructions for Pressurized Water Reactors (PWR), as for the Fast Neutron Reactors (RNR) of generation IV.
Regulatory Authority – DTIR: internal regulatory authority
Internship’s location: FRANCE (Saint-Marcel, Burgundy)
